Today’s Worship–Aug 26, 2013–So What’s Your Excuse?

Greetings Saints!

I’ve always been fascinated by wildlife documentaries where they show predators on the  hunt. The predator usually hunts in groups or pairs. First they look for the weak ones and then will separate their prey from the rest of the herd.  One of the pair will then distract the prey while the other moves in for the kill. They use the same tactic all the time and it is efficient and it works.

The devil uses the same thing with members of the body of Christ. He separates the weak ones form the body of Christ, distracts them and then moves in for the kill. Unless the Christian is firmly planted in the body and reading the word they are easy prey.

That is why God has placed shepherds in the flock to watch over them. The enemy will give you may excuses as to why you can’t go to church and partake with the body and it is all a distraction. Missing one Sunday is one thing, but when it becomes a string of Sunday’s it becomes easier to miss church. The enemy will even send others their way to tell them that they are free and that church is a bondage. That you don’t need to go to church to be a Christian. Really? I don’t see that in the Bible anywhere. This is what I see,

And day after day they regularly assembled in the temple with united purpose, and in their homes they broke bread [including the Lord’s Supper]. They partook of their food with gladness and simplicity and generous hearts, Constantly praising God and being in favour and goodwill with all the people; and the Lord kept adding [to their number] daily those who were being saved [from spiritual death]. – Acts 2:46-47 (AMP)

In days past before there were cars, people would travel for hours just to hear the word, didn’t matter how far they lived from the church, they made the time to be there on Sunday. In countries like China and many African nations people will travel sometimes even days to hear the gospel. They will stay in church the entire day, because such is their hunger for the word and to be with other believers. In the West today we have become lazy and some go with out any fellowship at all, preferring to listen to some televangelist where they have no accountability. When the storms come these lone Christians will not be able to stand.

In another blog I wrote years ago I spoke about the mighty Redwood tree that grows along the west coast of North America. They are the largest living organisms on the face of the earth. The tallest of these trees is 379.1 feet (115.55 meters) high. Yet there is a little known fact about these trees, they have a very small root system. How do trees this size stand without deep roots? Their roots entwine with each other, providing support to all, holding their neighbour up otherwise they would fall over with the slightest gust of wind. That is the way the Body of Christ is designed. None of us were meant to stand alone, we need each other for support and stand when the storm comes.

Stop making excuses, get into fellowship and into the word. It is the only sure way you can protect yourself from the enemies schemes. The days are becoming darker everyday and more and more a falling sway to the lie they don’t need a church or a pastor. Don’t be one of them.

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,  not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. – Hebrews 10:23-25
